A brain lives in a body and a community

Keep moving, learning, treating and connecting.

No crossword, supplement or “brain hack” can guarantee protection from cognitive decline. Brain health is influenced by many parts of life working together.

Support the conditions around cognition

  • Be physically active in ways suited to you.
  • Manage blood pressure, diabetes, hearing, vision and other health conditions with appropriate care.
  • Keep learning through meaningful activities—not only apps.
  • Protect sleep and address persistent sleep problems.
  • Avoid smoking and discuss alcohol honestly with a clinician.

Connection is health infrastructure

Social isolation and loneliness are not the same thing, but both deserve attention. Make connection concrete: a recurring walk, a phone call, volunteering, a class, a faith community, a hobby group or an online community that leads to real conversation.

Purpose can be ordinary

Purpose does not need to be a grand mission. Caring for a garden, helping a neighbor, teaching a skill or showing up for family can all give the week structure and meaning.
